Website maintenance

Website maintenance packages for small businesses.

Your site is software. Left alone it goes out of date, slows down, and eventually breaks — usually the contact form, usually without telling you. We keep it updated, backed up, monitored and fast, from $79/month.

What "maintenance" actually means.

Most maintenance plans are a cron job that clicks "update" and emails you a report. That is not maintenance, because nobody checks whether the update broke the site. Here is the work that actually has to happen.

Updates, applied carefully

Core, plugin and theme updates are where sites break. We apply them on a staging copy first on Growth and above, check the pages that matter — homepage, contact form, checkout — and only then push live. An update that silently breaks your quote form costs more than a year of maintenance.

Backups you can actually restore

Daily, offsite, 30-day retention. A backup sitting on the same server as the site is not a backup — if the server is compromised or the host loses the disk, both copies go together. We test restores, because an untested backup is a hope, not a plan.

Security that is not just a plugin

Outdated plugins are the most common way small business sites get hacked. We scan for malware, watch for file changes, keep TLS certificates from lapsing, and patch known vulnerabilities when they are disclosed rather than on the next monthly cycle.

Monitoring that alerts us, not you

Uptime checks run continuously. You should not find out your site is down because a customer told you. We also watch page speed over time — sites get slower gradually as images and scripts accumulate, and nobody notices until it is bad.

The edits you never get around to

New hours, a price change, a staff photo, a seasonal banner. Every plan includes edit time so these take one email rather than sitting on your list for six months. This is the part clients actually use most.

A report in plain English

On Growth and above: what was updated, what broke and got fixed, uptime, page speed, and how many enquiries the site produced. Short enough to read, specific enough to be worth reading.

What an unmaintained site costs.

Maintenance is easy to skip because nothing happens for a while. Then several things happen at once. The four we get called about most:

The form stopped sending

A plugin update, a changed mail setting, or an expired API key — and quote requests go nowhere. Businesses routinely discover this months later. Every enquiry in that window is gone and unrecoverable.

The hack you clean up twice

A compromised site gets flagged by Google with a "this site may be harmful" warning, which kills traffic instantly. Cleanup plus reinstatement typically costs more than two years of an Essential plan.

The slow slide

Nobody adds a slow page on purpose. Images get uploaded full-size, plugins accumulate, and a site that loaded in 2 seconds at launch takes 8 two years later. Mobile visitors leave before it paints.

The rebuild you didn't need

The most expensive outcome: a site so far behind that updating it safely is impossible and the only route is a full rebuild. Maintenance is the thing that stops a $5,000 problem from replacing a $79 one.

Website maintenance FAQ.

What is included in a website maintenance package?

A maintenance package covers the work a website needs after launch to stay secure, fast and online: software and plugin updates, offsite backups, uptime and security monitoring, malware scanning, broken link checks, and a set number of content edit hours each month. Our plans start from $79/month for a brochure site and $199/month for a site that generates leads. The difference between tiers is update frequency, response speed, and how many hours of edits and development are included.

How much does website maintenance cost per month?

For a small business site, expect $79 to $199 per month for standard care, and $499 or more for a revenue-critical site or online store. Below about $50/month you are usually buying automated plugin updates with nobody checking whether the update broke anything. Agencies charging $1,000+ per month are typically bundling marketing retainers or development capacity, not maintenance alone.

Do I really need website maintenance?

If your site runs on WordPress or any CMS with plugins, yes. Outdated plugins are the single most common way small business sites get hacked, and an unattended site typically breaks within 6 to 12 months of launch — a contact form silently stops delivering, an update conflicts with the theme, or the SSL certificate lapses. The most expensive version of this is the one nobody notices for three months.

What happens if my site goes down?

Uptime monitoring alerts us, not you. On Essential we respond within one business day; on Complete, same business day with priority. Because we keep daily offsite backups, the usual fix is restoring a known-good copy in minutes rather than debugging a broken live site while you lose enquiries.

Can you maintain a website you did not build?

Yes, and most of the sites we maintain are ones we did not build. We start with a free audit: what platform it runs on, what is out of date, what is actually broken, and whether anything needs fixing before a maintenance plan makes sense. If the site is in bad enough shape that maintenance is throwing money at it, we will tell you that instead of selling you a plan.

Am I locked into a contract?

No. Plans are month to month and you can cancel any time. You own your site, your domain, your hosting and your code — we do not hold any of it hostage. If you leave, we hand over backups and documentation.
